a movement for everyday connection

need a chat?

small signals. real connection.

A quiet way for people and places to say they are available, approachable and present - making everyday human connection a little easier to begin.

why this exists

sometimes all someone needs is permission to start.

Most of us don't struggle to have conversations. We struggle to know where they are welcome.

Few people want to interrupt a stranger or burden someone who looks busy. Even when we need another person, we sometimes hestiate: do they have time? would they mind? am I bothering them?

need a chat? creates a simple, visible invitation that gently answers those questions. Not by creating counsellors. Not by asking people to become experts. Simply by helping someone recognise another person who has chosen to be here.

choosing to be here

the decision happens before the moment.

Before leaving home and stepping into the day, you check in with yourself:
"Do I have capacity and am I in the headspace to be here for someone?"

If the answer is yes, you put on your wristband. That is the moment the choice is made.

no pressure. no guilt.

some days, the answer will be no.

Perhaps you are carrying something heavy yourself. Perhaps you are tired, rushed or simply need your own quiet. Those are good reasons not to wear it.

Part of the movement is being honest about your own capacity - choosing to recognise when to not where your wristband.

what it means to be present

available. approachable. present.

  1. available

You have intentionally made space. Your day does not need to be empty; you have simply decided that, if someone genuinely needs a conversation, you are willing to pause.

  2. approachable

The wristband is only part of the invitation. A smile, eye contact, patience and a calm presence help someone feel that they are not interrupting.

  3. present

You do not need to fix, solve or advise. Presence means listening with attention, allowing silence, and staying curious rather than rushing to respond.

for places

when being here becomes a place

Being here looks different for everyone.

Cafés, churches, op shops, workplaces, libraries and community groups can each discover a form of participation that fits naturally with who they already are.

Enable your place to be here with a pack of wristbands and resources to help get started.

  • a café

Team members may choose to wear wristbands, helping customers know there is someone nearby who is open to a friendly conversation.

  • an op shop

The shop might host a weekly tea-and-chat hour where anyone can pull up a chair and stay for a while.

  • a church

A small team might remain after services so nobody needs to leave without someone to talk to.

  • a workplace

Wristbands or shared lunch tables might help colleagues know when connection is welcome.

the wristband

a quiet signal

the wristband

The wristband is simply one visible expression of your choice to be here.

It lets another person know that someone nearby has chosen to be available, and reminds you of this too.

Every order arrives as a small welcome pack with a wristband, a welcome card and practical guidance for choosing to be here.
